Summer offers teachers a rare gift: time to breathe, reflect, and reset. While the school year is often a whirlwind of to-do lists and lesson plans, summer is the perfect opportunity to evaluate the routines that shape both your personal and professional life. Why? Because your routines—good or bad—are either moving you toward your goals or keeping you stuck in place.
WHERE DO WE START???

Start with your morning routine at home. If you want to impact your professional life, start with your personal life first. Does your morning routine set a positive tone for your day? Is there time for calm, nutrition, or mindfulness—or is it rushed and chaotic?
Next, think about your arrival at school. Are you entering the building with purpose, or do you start your day already feeling behind?
During the school day, consider your conference time routines. Is that block being used strategically for planning, collaboration, and reflection, or is it swallowed up by distractions?
What about your classroom routines? Are your students thriving because of clear, consistent structures?
Now shift to the end of day routine. Are you leaving work behind mentally, or carrying it home in your thoughts and mood?
Once you’re home, evaluate your evening routines with your family. Are you present and connected, or drained and disengaged?
And don’t overlook your health routines—sleep, movement, hydration, and nutrition. These are the foundation of your energy and resilience.
The truth is: you already have routines. But are they leading you to growth—or keeping you in a rut? This summer, commit to building the BEST routines. Align them with your goals and values. When you do, you’ll find that both professional success and personal fulfillment follow. Be intentional. Be reflective. Be the BEST.
